Yagya/
Yajna is one of the sacrificial rituals of
Hinduism in which offerings are made to different Gods and Goddesses in a

The word
Yagya/ Yajna is mainly derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yaj’, which has a
threefold meaning; to unify (sangatikaran), to give (dan) and to worship deities
(Devapuja). A Yagya also encompasses the welcoming of guest (satkaar) and unity
(sangathan) while performing the sacrificial ritual.
Atharva Veda describes Yajna as:
“Ayam Yajna Vishvasya Bhuvanasya Nabhih”
suggesting Yagya as the fundamental procedure of manifestation of nature.
Significance
of Vedic Yagya
An essential element while performing Vedic Havan Vidhi is the sacrificial
fire- the divine Agni- into which offering are poured, as offering given into
the divine fire is believed to reach the Deities. A person who performs the
Yajna is required to maintain definite vows, one of them is the Chandrayana.
These include bathing properly and fasting according to a rigid discipline.
It is believed that this sacrifice
